National Student Advertising Competition - TCU Selected as Wildcard Team, Wins 3rd Runner-Up Honors

TCU’s National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) team took 3rd runner up at the National Convention of AAF held in Atlanta, Georgia this week.

The winner of this year’s competition was Ohio University, with 1st runner up going to Art Center Design of Albuquerque, New Mexico, second runner up going to the University of Virginia, and the 3rd runner up going to the local team from TCU.

TCU was selected for the wildcard spot in the NSAC after taking second place in the district-level competition at the District Convention in Dallas on April 17.

About the TCU NSAC team
TCU participated in NSAC during the mid-1980s, but the program was discontinued after a few years for lack of a sponsor. In 1999, the Advertising Club of FW made a contribution to TCU to help pay the first semester’s salary for an adjunct to be the sponsor for a TCU NSAC team. That adjunct was Mike Wood who, as a Radio Shack advertising executive, had written the Radio Shack case study used in the 1984 NSAC competition.

TCU saw the value of the NSAC program and continued funding the sponsor position. (Today, Wood serves as Advertising Professional in Residence in the Schieffer School of Journalism at TCU.) Every TCU team under Wood’s direction has placed in the top four at the district-level competition. Last year they placed first at district and made their first trip to the national competition. This year’s top four win serves as well-deserved recognition for this outstanding team.

The cost of participating in the program is high. And while TCU covers a small portion of these expenses, most of these additional expenses must be raised from other sources.

The TCU team would greatly appreciate your support. Make checks payable to AAF Student Chapter, TCU and send c/o Mike Wood, Schieffer School of Journalism, Texas Christian University, P. O. Box TCU Box 298060, Fort Worth, TX 76129.
